About Our Soaps
Our OilsVirgin Coconut Oil - Is a great skin conditioner and is used in soap to make a rich lather and provide some moisturising qualities.
Pure Olive Oil - An excellent oil to use in soap as it is a moisturiser that forms a breathable layer on the skin preventing a loss of internal moisture. Olive oil makes a very hard, almost completely white bar of soap and is suitable for babies and even the most sensitive of skin.
Sunflower Oil - Rich in vitamin E providing skin conditioning for dry skin.
Unrefined Shea Butter- Naturally rich in vitamins A,E anf F making it great to soften revitalise and moisten dry skin.
Cold Processed Castor Oil- Acts a humectant by attracting and retaining moisture to the skin.
How We Make Our Soap. All of our handmade soaps contain the following ingredients:
Pure Olive Oil,
Virgin Coconut Oil,
Unrefined Shea Butter,
Cold Processed Castor Oil,
Aroma-therapy quality essential oils,
Fresh fruits and/or botanicals,
Natural plant colours and clays.
When oils are mixed with an alkali (Lye) a process called saponification takes place. Oils are composed of fatty acids which require a certain amount of an alkali to saponify them, or change them into soap. This is a crucial part of soap making and when formulated correctly and professionally, there is NO lye left in the finished soap.
As an added extra, we actually super fat all our soaps. This means that oils or fats that have been left in the soap unconverted by the lye to allow some fat/oil to remain in its original form so that it forms an invisible, protective and conditioning layer on the skin. The purpose of super-fatting the soap is to give it this more moisturising quality, making it milder for the skin.
